Can I find the first re-release of the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD?
Okay you’re probably offended by that question but read on first:
I first watched the original star wars trilogy on television in the late 1990s/early 2000s (can’t remember) and from what I can remember it wasn’t the original theatrical version because the special effects were updated in places i.e. Mos Eisley, Cloud City etc, but it WASNT the newer re-release with Ian McDiarmid and Temuera Morrison edited into ESB or Hayden Christensen in ROTJ, which I recently bought and didn’t like how Lucas had butchered it. Anyway, my question is does anyone know what I’m taking about, and can I find this release on DVD? As a side question, is it worth watching the original theatrical version too? Is it better? Thanks.
Why would anybody be offended by a fan asking a real questions … I know there are some but they don’t have two brain cells to rub together.
Anyways, you are looking for the SE Versions of the movies. These were the ones that were re-released to theaters in 1997. These versions had a couple changed scenes, vastly improved sound, most of the things that he changed were ok … except for making Greedo shoot first so Han wouldn’t look like a cold blooded killer.
The SE versions were ONLY released in VHS form. I’m sure the guy who said he found his on ebay is actually right but that would be a bootleg copy of it, which in the end, doesn’t really matter. Shhhhh … I have them on DVD also … I have a program that will copy a VHS movie to my computer and then I can burn it … like I said … Shhhhh … lol …
As for you side question, is it worth watching the original theartical versions too … I’d say yes … at least that way you would know how the whole thing stated and feel some of the magic that made Star Wars what it is today. Is it better … that comes down to one of those “nasty” Point Of View things again … lol … personally, I can’t chose a “which is best” of the 3 versions … they are all great, of course, but I can’t say that I like one version better than the other although I can say that the version I watch the most is the DVD versions.
